About Barney

DSCF0812.JPG

This page is dedicated to the memory of Barney, a Canadian gosling that wandered into our yard on Mother's Day 2004 and filled our lives and our hearts for the time he was with us. We miss him! A lot!

About Barney

We were having our barn painted.  On May 9, 2004 the men came to our door just before dark and said there was a baby goose out at the barn.  He strolled over to the guys from the woods and decided he was going to help paint.  The first picture shows the paint on his feet from walking in the paint pans and on the paint rollers.  :)  Hence, the name Barney bacame his name.  We decided immediately that he was too young to remain outside unprotected from coyotes or other threatening creatures.  We tried to find him a home but it became evident that the longer we had him the more we were becoming attached to him.  We thought that if we could feed and protect him until he learned to fly maybe he would find a family of geese to attach to.  Second photo taken May 22, 2004.  He is growing fast!

About Barney

Now he is really getting big. But, we think there was something wrong with his wings. He looked like a little airplane walking around. Regardless, he brought us so much laughter! He helped Lucy with weeding the flower beds and helped Gary with carrying off tools! :) He was a great companion to both of us--almost like having a little kid running around!

Sorrow

But we lost him on August 26, 2004 when a neighbor's dog dug under our chain link fence and killed him. All of you out there who met Barney knew what an incredible bird he was.  He loved getting his picture taken!  :)
